German Surprise Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
2 1/4 Cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
1/2 cup cocoa
2/3 cup sauerkraut (chopped, rinsed, and drained)
Cooking:
- Cream butter and sugar together.
- Add eggs one at a time
- Add cocoa
- Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda and powder.
- Add to creamed mixture slowly, until all is mixed.
- Fold in sauerkraut.
- Put into a slightly greased 9 by 15 baking pan.
- Bake for 30 to 45 minutes at 375 degrees F.
Frosting
Ingredients:
1 8 oz. cream cheese softened
1/2 cup confectionery sugar
2 tbsp. cream
1 tsp. vanilla
Cooking:
- Cream cream cheese
- Add cream and vanilla
- Add sugar slowly
- Spread over top of cake
